Jaroslav Vonka, a Rediscovery in Bronze: Three Rare Sculptures, a Family Odyssey, and the Master of Wrocław Metalwork
Three small bronzes, one extraordinary journey. Our latest article traces how works by Czech metal artist Jaroslav Vonka (1875–1952) traveled from a Wrocław workshop to a family’s Kindertransport trunks and, decades later, back into the light. Two pieces descend directly through the family; a third was found online and later matched to Vonka after a municipal rediscovery in Oleśnica confirmed the authorship. With verified provenance and rare market presence, these sculptures open a window onto Central European modernism—and a family’s resolve to preserve it.
